1952, Los Angeles. It is New Year’s Eve and private investigator Aloysius Archer is dining with his friend and rising Hollywood star Liberty Callahan when they’re approached by Eleanor Lamb, a famous screenwriter, who would like to hire him as she suspects someone is trying to kill her.
Murder and mystery
A visit to Lamb’s Malibu residence leaves Archer in no doubt of foul play after he’s knocked unconscious entering the property, there’s a dead body in the hallway and Eleanor seems to have vanished. With the police now involved in the case, a close friend and colleague of Lamb’s employs Archer to find out what’s happened to her.
The City of Angels – or somewhere much, much darker?
Archer’s investigation takes him from the rich, glamorous and glitzy LA to the seedy, dark side of the city, a place where cops and crooks work hand in hand. Archer will cross paths with Hollywood stars, politicians and notorious criminals. He’ll almost die several times. And he’ll discover bodies from the canyons and beaches of Malibu and the luxurious mansions of Bel Air and Beverly Hills to the streets and clubs of Chinatown.
With the help of Liberty and the infamous Willie Dash, he’ll leave no stone unturned in solving the mystery of Eleanor Lamb – and who and what is behind the murder trail.

Good: A few creases on the spine, perhaps a forward lean, bumping on corners or shelfwear; maybe an inscription inside or some shelfwear or a small tear or two on the dustjacket; inside clean but page edges might be somewhat yellowed.
Fair: In overall good condition, might have a severe forward lean to the spine, an inscription, bumping to corners; one or two folds on the covers and yellowed pages; in exceptional cases these books might contain some library stamps and stickers or have neat sticky tape which was used to fix a short, closed tear.
Poor: We rarely sell poor condition books, unless the books are in demand and difficult to find in a better condition. Poor condition books are still perfect for a good read, all pages will be intact and none threatening to fall out; most probably a reading copy only.
